Default telefonica broadband router trouble

This issue probably isn't just with Telefonica Spain, so hopefully someone can help.

The router we were given, free, with our telefonica broadband is crap. It's signal strength is weak and it cuts out every 5 minutes. I can't GvG with unreliable net like this.

We bought a Wireless N Netgear and I bought a bigger receiver. The Receiver works; it's just an antenna, but the Netgear ceases to function with this Internet.

Is there any reason it wouldn't work? If you need more details feel free to ask.

Cheers,
~HM

You should be asking this question to Telefonica Support and/or post it on Broadband Reports. You are far from giving us any useful information to go on.

From what I gather (Google search) Telefonica Spain is running some sort of ADSL Broadband connection and one of the FAQs on their web site lists their Internet service as using a combination wireless router/modem device -- If that is still correct then this device likely needs to be set to "bridge mode" so your new Netgear router can connect to it (without getting into a double-NAT situation).

If you are able to connect the Netgear router without needing this modem/router device then you will need to configure the WAN Interface on the Netgear for a ADSL/PPPoE connection, which may mean having to enter a login ID/password to connect.

You best bet is to contact Telefonica support (as suggested on their website) for assistance with hooking up your Netgear router. But if you still like some input from people on this forum, we need more details about your connection.

As above, more detail is required.

If you have a combined modem/router, you should be able to get into the modem settings and disable the broadband (or perhaps set it to a different band than the Netgear). You should then be able to connect the router to a wired output of the modem and enable it's broadband.
